LS swaps are the only thing that can be out of this world insane and yet boring and predictable at the same time.
The car was a creative choice. The engine was an obvious choice. Soooooooo close to being perfect.

Awesome, but not batshit.
Throw a oversized turbo kit on it, and now we're talking batshit.

true. that'd be naaaaasty.
though as-is it may cause a few people's heads to explode, like fans of classic Japanese cars and Corvette guys. so i'd say a little batshit...

Love 70s Celicas. Want to hate. Can't.

I don't know why people put in non-"origin" (mothership...etc) engines or parts to their vehicles. I've seen a couple of articles here as well advertising cars like these.
This is personally my opinion, but why not a 1UZ, 2UZ, or even a 2JZ? Honestly I can see why people swap for an LS1 because its easier, cheaper, and the block is lighter than the engines I've said above, I just think it's awesome to keep it "original" if you're going to restore a classic. This is a great example of a car that should be on the NPOCP FP post

It worries me that apparently the passenger seat is mint, but the back seat is only in "good" condition.
Ewwww...

I get upset over people putting LS1's in Ford Trucks... But over this swap I don't get upset. Is that unfair? I don't know...

Finally has the guts to match its pony-car looks. Nothing wrong here, although I expect the oppotariat to lose their cool over it.

There's a difference in swapping a motor into an enemy's car, and then there's swapping a motor into the enemy's car.

I suppose you are right, a swap goes from being obscure (ls1+celica) to being just-not-cool (chevy350+fordtruck).
